In 1953, Russ Gremel invested $1,000 in Walgreens shares. Six decades later, the stock was worth more than $2 million. At 98, the Chicago veteran donated it to the Illinois Audubon Society to protect wildlife. His gift helped fund a 395-acre sanctuary in Dixon, Illinois.
