Indian customs authorities have held about 1,500 tonnes of soybean cargoes at JNPT after importers failed to provide documents proving the shipments originated in Niger and qualified for duty-free entry. The scrutiny follows a sharp surge in soybean imports declared as coming from Niger and concerns that Nigerian beans may have been mis-declared to avoid import duties.
