Maharashtra tribunal awards Rs 23.86 lakh plus 9% interest to family of 22-year-old killed a decade ago

A Motor Accident Claims Tribunal in Maharashtra’s Thane district has awarded Rs 23.86 lakh to the family of Akib Anis Attar, who died after a truck hit his motorcycle on Ghodbunder Road in 2016. The award includes 9% annual interest and covers loss of future income, future prospects, loss of consortium, loss of estate and funeral expenses. The tribunal also clarified why acquittal in a criminal case does not automatically invalidate a compensation claim, PTI reported.
