WHO seeks more information from Russia on Irkutsk lab worker's death

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus of WHO reported on a laboratory worker's death in Irkutsk due to severe pneumonia. Initial reports suggested a possible pneumonic plague infection following a lab accident. Russia's health authorities stated that no recent cases of plague were recorded in the area. An investigation and quarantine measures were put in place for identified contacts of the deceased.
